Rock Interview: Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains' Mike and William tell Paul Anthony about the journey that got the band going again, culminating in the release of their first album in a decade.
According to the band the last few years has been ‘one hell of a journey’.
It has been seven years since late vocalist Layne Staley was found dead, when it seemed the band may never survive.
But guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez reunited in 2005 at a benefit for victims of the tsunami in Indonesia. They began touring with new guitarist/vocalist William DuVall the following year.
And, fortunately, William has fitted the band like a glove.
William told Paul: “I felt the only way to approach this and let the chips fall where they may. There wasn’t a grand plan.”
He added: “It just sort of happened step by step by step and that took some of the pressure off and naturally there was pressure.”
Now, Alice In Chains’ are set to release their first new studio album in more than 10 years, through Parlophone, on September 28th.
