Crooked Vultures turned down Macca

Paul McCartney has revealed he wanted to be part of supergroup Them Crooked Vultures – but drummer Dave Grohl had to pass on the offer.

The ex-Beatle had been working with the Foo Fighters on an appearance at last year's Grammy Awards, after which Foo Fighter Grohl told him about the collaboration with Joshe Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

McCartney tells Nightwatcher: "We went out for a bit to eat after the awards and Dave told me he was starting this band with Josh.

"I asked him who was playing bass. He rather sheepishly told me he'd approached John Paul Jones.

"So you read it here first - Paul McCartney was nearly the bass player in Them Crooked Vultures."

Led Zeppelin bassist Jones collaborated with Grohl and Homme on a self-titled Them Crooked Vultures album last year, before embarking on a series of guerilla concerts followed by an official tour.

The band have already stated they're planning to make a second album. Rumours continue to make the rounds about a potential Led Zeppelin reunion while both Foo Fighters and QOTSA are on hiatus.
