Faces planning tour without Rod…

The Faces are so desperate to tour they’re not waiting for Rod Stewart to come back to the fold, says keyboardist Mac McLagan. And they could replace their frontman with Simply Red singer Mick Hucknall.
McLagan explains the band want to hit the road in 2010 and have been waiting for Stewart to sign up for years. He says: “If we don’t do it very soon, one of us is gonna check out. I’m 64. We’ve been waiting for him to say yes and now he’s finally said no. He’s busy doing other shit so we’re gonna do it.”
Stewart recently stated he’d like “his old job back eventually”, but is planning to tour in support of new album Soulbook next. He also told Rock Radio he was talking about a blues album with Jeff Beck.
McLagan says he and bandmates Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones are thinking about bringing a series of guests on stage rather than relying on one voice – and his choice would include Hucknall, Paul Carrack and Andy Fairweather-Low, who appeared with them in turns at a London show. Bill Wyman stood in for the late Ronnie Lane on bass, but probably wouldn’t tour, so McLagan would hire Glenn Matlock – or bring a collection of bassists too.
He explains: “I think it’s more exciting with different singers and bass players and maybe some other guests. It’s more adventurous and won’t be the same old shit.”
Meanwhile, Bad Company have announced a UK tour for April, and will bring Joe Perry Project out as support act.
It’ll be the first British shows for Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs and Simon Kirke in 30 years. They haven’t yet announced a stand-in for Boz Burrell, who died in 2006.
Rodgers says: “These dates are to thank the fans for keeping the music alive.”
