Hear the new Hendrix single

The much-anticipated 'new' Jimi Hendrix single, Valleys of Neptune, is now available for streaming online - and while it's classic Hendrix it also shows how the guitarist was progressing from his classic Electric Ladyland sound to his Band of Gypsys direction in 1969.

The upcoming album of the same name was made during a time of flux in Hendrix's life, after the release of Electric Ladyland in 1968 and before his performance at Woodstock the following year.
It's the period during which the Jimi Hendrix Experience began to collapse, with bassist Noel Redding replaced by Billy Cox, and a number of other artists can he heard – although the classic lineup also has tracks on the LP.
Co-producer John McDermott tells Spinner: "This album captures that transition. We don't want t over-dramatise it. This is that missing period of time."
The Valleys of Neptune album is due out on March 9, with estate manager Janie Hendrix – Jimi's sister – having previously said there's a full decade of unreleased material in the vaults.
