Metallica heads Rock Radio’s Top 500

Metallica: One. And Enter Sandman
Metallica: One. And Enter Sandman

Metallica’s Enter Sandman is the number one song on Rock Radio listeners’ top 500, it was revealed over the bank holiday weekend.

Thousands of fans voted in Rock Radio Manchester’s online poll, submitting their top ten tracks of all time, which was then built into a total top 500.

But while Metallica had four entries in the top 50 – matching Led Zeppelin and Guns n’Roses - AC/DC appeared six times. The Rolling Stones and Iron Maiden had three each, with Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and the Who on two apiece.

Classic-era bands made up the majority of the placings, with Muse the youngest band to appear in the top 100 – their Knights of Cydonia was at No.89. Pearl Jam, Green Day, Soundgarden, Pantera and Foo Fighters also made the cut.

Yeah, very iffy chart. Was it coincidence that METALLICA + AC/DC got highest no: of enteries considering they both recently played @ MEN ARENA..Livin' On A Prayer only no:65, yet One by METALLICA @10 !!!!

Yeh some iffy tunes in there but you cant argue with the results its all in the votes. Am sure most of the bands in the top ten have done better tunes than was picked. Dont know about the Beatles rant. You cant dismiss them (except the Epstein era) before that and after have to be considered a Rock & Roll band.

Overall I think this is a decent list with a few notable omissions from the 500 but not too many surprises towards to top of the chart. Would have liked to have seen some of the best voters comments on song choices included as well as the list itself and maybe even get the rock radio crew to pick some of their favourite top 10's from those submitted by listeners.

the list is hardly credible, i mean jimi hendrix didnt even have a song in the top 20. Black Night 500? enter sandman is a class song, but its not epic enough to be no.1
