Boston's Tom Scholz says his identity was recently used to con a venue promoter out of $5000. Someone claiming to be Scholz booked a show in New York and took the money up-front, and of course the gig didn't take place. Scholz says: "I've seen countless examples of con artists using the name Boston but this is the first time I've seen someone using my name." He reports he's continuing work on a new Boston album, but as ever it's going painfully slowly and neither he nor the band will be playing any shows this year.
Slash's solo band will be fronted by Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy, the guitarist has revealed. Kennedy sang a track on Slash's upcoming solo album, who calls him "one of the best rock'n'roll singers out there today." He's also inviting fans to suggest locations for the tour to visit, anywhere in the world, via his Twitter account.

The Who will release a double CD to mark their appearance at the Super Bowl this weekend. CD1 is a best-of compilation while CD2 feature rare live recordings chosen by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend. A further 22 live tracks will be available in exclusive iTunes packages.
Johnny Depp is reported to be planning a documentary about his friend, Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards.
Ozzy Osbourne has learned his lesson after fans' reaction to the name of his new album. It was to be called Soul Sucka but the audience rejected it en masse. Now Ozzy says: "Before I even announce what I'm going to call it I'll get a list of names on my website and find out which one people like the best."
Coheed and Cambria will release new album Year of the Black Rainbow on April 12. It's a prequel to the band's previous concept output and the special edition includes a 350-page novel.
Shinedown drummer Barry Kerch says the band will continue touring throughout 2010 before beginning work on a new album. He says: "We've been doing some writing on the road but we still have two or three more singles to release off The Sound of Madness, so it won't be until 2011 that we'll get the next album out - or even start work on it." The band are considering an acoustic tour in between the end of their full-power trek and recording work, and are also planning another live DVD.

Punk musician Jay Reatard died of a cocaine and alcohol overdose, his autopsy has revealed. The 29-year-old was found dead at home in Tennessee in January. Meanwhile, the death of Metallica fan Morgan Harrington has been ruled homicide. She disappeared after the band's show in Virginia in October.
