"For those about to rock, we salute you"
No-nonsense back-to-basics rock with naughty lyrics and singalong choruses, plus Angus Young, the oldest schoolboy guitarist in the world
Who-How-When: Brothers Angus and Malcolm Young put together a pub-rock act in Sydney, Australia, in 1973. They were joined by singer Bon Scott and recorded High Voltage in 1975.
Breakthrough: 1979's Highway to Hell... Highway to Hell, Girls Got Rhythm, Touch Too Much, If You Want Blood (You've Got It)
Lowest Low: Scott's death after a drinking session in 1980. The band considered quitting but instead hired Geordie vocalist Brian Johnston.
Highest high:1980's Back in Black, a tribute to Bon Scott, who died earlier that year, is the second-best selling album of all time.
That was then... 2008's long-awaited Black Ice shows a return to classic form, although the band are rumoured to be retiring after a last world tour.
Encore:Scottish ex-pat Angus Young was invited to a teenagers' party after playing at the Glasgow Apollo in 1977. He went to join the fun in a council flat in the city's unfashionable Drumchapel area. The parents arrived home unexpectedly and everyone did a runner - including rock star Young, who found himself dropping from a rear window into a back alley, with no idea where he was or how to get back to his hotel (we assume he did).
