Madina Lake answer your questions Pt 1

Madina Lake: Puking for 45 minutes
Madina Lake: Puking for 45 minutes

What new tattoos have you gotten to celebrate the new album?
Well I'm working on a piece by Victor Lynden, who did the album art. He's become my favorite artist so I picked one he did a while ago and made some changes. But since I'm a mangina I can only sit for, like, four hours at a time. I still have another 2 sessions at least...

How did you survive doing the cow parts challenge in Fear Factor? You must have felt horrible afterwards. What made you go for it?
It was truly horrific - but sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do. We weren't getting out of that pit till we finished. After it we both puked for 45 minutes.

If you could choose any band or artist, who would you go on tour with?
If you mean dead as well as alive I'd go with Bob Marley. There's so much negativity in the world today. Anywhere I go on the internet I read people bitching about this, that, or the other and it gets super-annoying. Bob had a massive positive vibe and energy and I think the world could really use that.

When writing, how do you fit the lyrics to the music? Do you try to match moods or do you think it can work better to mix and match?
Ever since I was a kid music has given me a vibe. A song would come on and would make me happy, excited, miserable, depressed, energized or drained. So when we're working on a new song I get an idea pretty quickly about what kind of vibe I'm thinking and base the lyrics around that. First I come up with a melody I like over each different part, then I fit the words around that. Everybody works differently - some write words first then try to cram the them into a melody. For me that doesn't work - it's gotta have flow melodically. So words come last.

You have stories behine each album which fans try to figure out using the clues you leave in lyrics, artwork and merch. What made you decided to do thing this way? Can you give us any more clues about the story in Attics?
Music has always been an escape to me. As soon as I put headphones on I leave wherever I am and tune everything out. It allows me to paint a new world in my mind - one I actually enjoy! So with Madina Lake we just tried to bring that to life. Some people listen to music to hear their favorite hit and sing along, which is totally cool. But for others I think it really inspires their own creativity, and that's what we're shooting for. As for clues... We've buried stuff everywhere, but most of it won't make sense until you get the first part of Scorched Earth - which will be soon. There will also be some music to accompany that which will help piece things together!
