Black Stone Cherry: 21 11 09

BSC: November 21
BSC: November 21

Here's what Ben and John Fred played on November 21 - and what they said about some of the songs.

Aerosmith: Sweet Emotion

B: We got a tender spot in our hearts for Aerosmith.
JF: A little gooey spot…
B: It’s one of the band’s main influences. We played with them at Hyde Park and we were like little girls about it.

Led Zeppelin: Kashmir

Creedence Clearwater Revival: Born on the Bayou

B: A lot of people have said they remind us of a heavy metal Creedence, which is awesome.

Allman Brothers: Jessica

Lynyrd Skynyrd: Simple Man

B: We just got off tour with them in the States and they were the nicest group of guys. They made sure we were well looked after.

Black Sabbath: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

Theory of a Deadman: Not Meant to Be

JF: We’ve done a lot of touring with them and they’re nice fellows. They’ll be playing here a lot more too.

Cream: White Room
JF: I think they’re one of our favourite bands – they have so many different sounds, different signature sounds.
Rolling Stones: Honky Tonk Woman
B: I can honestly say it’s the best country song ever.
JF: More girls dance to that...
B: In boots and little shorts.
JF: I’ve actually danced to it in boots and little short.
B: I’ve seen it.
JF: We’ll keep that to ourselves…

The Who: Won’t Get Fooled Again

Nazareth: Love Hurts

JF: We know a bus driver called Rex. He used to drive for Nazareth when they came to America and he’d store their stuff in his barn. When Darrel Sweet passed away he wanted me to buy his drums, so they didn’t go to a pawn shop or get split up. So I bought a piece of rock’n’roll history.

Mountain: Mississippi Queen
B: They’re a great southern rock band – but they’re from New York, which is strange. They just love the south so much.

Deep Purple: Space Truckin’
B: Purple have had some great albums but Machine Head was like the Appetite for Destruction for Deep Purple. And we made friends with Glenn Hughes and he hung out with us – that was awesome.
JF: He nicknamed you ‘the Spider’, didn’t he?
B: Yeah, but I hate spiders. And Snakes.

Rod Stewart: Hot Legs
JF: Rod actually wrote the song about my legs. Come to our show if you don’t believe it. I really think he should join our band.

Elvis Presley: Jailhouse Rock
B: Elvis comes before food and water in my life. This was the first movie and song to have choreographed dancing to it.

Creedence Clearwater Revival: Run to the Jungle

BSC: Reverend Wrinkle

B: This song isn’t about an actual person but it’s about a few personalities put into one.
JF: It’s a southern rock superhero.

James Brown: Cold Sweat
JF: I don’t know if there’s anyone as cool as James Brown was.
B: People don’t know were influenced by funk but we are.

Beatles: Hey Jude

Thin Lizzy: The Boys are Back in Town

Lynyrd Skynyrd: Floyd

B: We went to Nashville to hang out with them and they played us a few tracks from their new album. It was a real mojo booster.

Kentucky Headhunters: Wishing Well
JF: My father and uncle play in the band. This version is off their new release.

BSC: Rain Wizard

Johnny Cash: Folsom Prison Blues
