Bassist/singerTom Araya says Slayer’s new album, World Painted Blood, is so good because the band’s principal writers have come up with a perfect combination of speed and heaviness. He explains: “Kerry King’s writing is really aggressive and fast while Jeff Hanneman likes things to be fast, but with melodies and grooves. We seemed to share the same vision from song ideas to titles. Nothing is contrived – we just do it.” Drummer Dave Lombardo says: “Jeff coming in so early with three new songs really added an energy that got us all going. We had a great chemistry.” Slayer video interview
Cauldron mainman Jason Decay has explained how Metallica contributed to his eviction from his home. The Canadian singer says: “A few weeks ago I was told by my landlord that I had to be out of my place by the end of the month, due to too many noise complaints. Funny thing is, the guy making the complaints makes more noise than me – only difference is I tend no to complain. Anyway, he was doing his regular 2am Metallica S&M ritual. I went down to confront him with a copy of Kill ‘Em All, explaining that if he’s got to crank Metallica at 2am they have more than that symphony shit. Well, he took my presentation of Kill ‘Em All as an insult and it resulted in a heated argument with him slamming the door. I then smashed the door with a hockey stick. I received a written notice from the landlord to be out. Fine with me!” Decay’s now living with a friend.

This is the culmination of 10 years of barrelling through the mud, sweating through the dark times – and it’s really the payoff.
