Dave Grohl pushed his security guard's patience to the limit because he wanted to watch AC/DC while his flight was waiting to depart.

He hung back after his main stage set with Them Crooked Vultures to catch the Aussie giants. Rock Radio's Father Ted was watching the show beside Grohl at the sound desk as the drummer tried to argue for more time.

And his eventual departure resulted in Ted being left with a half-finished bottle of whisky.

Ted says: "About half-nine a big security guy came up and said, "Dave, the car's ready – we have to go." Grohl made some negative noises but the security guy kept insisting.

"So Dave looked him in the eye with a big smile and said: "Everything you're telling me is bad news, so I'm not listening." Then he turned away to watch AC/DC again.

"He demanded fifteen more minutes and the guy gave him it. By the time he came back Grohl was air-drumming along to AC/DC and blanked the guy, who finally put his hand on his shoulder and said: 'Dave, they're not going to wait for you.' So he grumbled a bit, put his bottle of Maker's Mark on the floor, and left."

Our man has rescued the bottle and is considering keeping it as a souvenir. And in case there's any doubt, Grohl's title of Nicest Man in Rock is in no danger.

Ted explains: "When he appeared at the sound desk people started recognising him and taking photos, but he really was just trying to watch the show.

"There was a seven or eight year old boy on his dad's shoulders who gave Dave the devil's horns, so Dave did it back.

"Then he put his drink down, jumped down out of the sound desk area, lifted the kid out of the crowd and had a photo taken with him and his dad.

"He signed the kid's hat, put him back in the crowd and went back to watch the show. He really is a very nice guy."
